| Standing in Visitor Center, peering up and down the Pine River, you may find Common Mergansers searching for dinner. Mergansers are fish-eaters, diving beneath the surface to snag a fish in their serrated bills. This species will hang around until the river freezes and then move south until they find open water. Adult male Common Mergansers have a dark iridescent green head, while the females sport a reddish-brown crest with a white chest. Keep an eye on the rivers as you enjoy the view from the River Overlook or explore the River Trail. |
