Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)

Saturday, October 2, 7:30am to Sunday, October 3, 10:30am (participants are required to camp overnight for this course) Camp Berry, Findlay OH

Any Cub Scout Pack that wants to conduct a Pack Campout not part of a council activity must have a BALOO trained Leader present for the duration of the Pack Campout.

This one-and-a-half day course is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for leaders interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities. BALOO training consists of an online pre-requisite component in addition to an overnight hands on practical.

The online prerequisite training is available in the BSA Learn Center on My.Scouting.

BSA’s Cub Scout level camping policies will be taught along with the discovery of the necessary tools to help units carry our a successful camping experience. Completion of this course is mandatory for a MINIMUM OF ONE adult on a Pack overnighter.

Cost $30 includes food/meals and training materials for the course.

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)

Saturday, October 2, 7:30am to Sunday, October 3, 4:15pm (participants are required to camp overnight for this course) Camp Berry, Findlay OH

Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Scouts, BSA troops in order to be considered “trained”.

The Training Policy of the Black Swamp Area Council requires that all Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters complete the Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) course within a year of registering as a Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster. Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters not completing this training will not be allowed to re-register/recharter as a Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster.

Cost $30 includes food/meals and training materials for the course.

Limited space available in both courses and no walk ins.
